JOB INTERVIEW TODAY

The higher the level of expectations from a job candidate, and the more respectable and up-to-date the company is, the more sophisticated and refined the company’s methods are for choosing its team. Indeed, there is a considerable progress in recruitment methods – stress interviews, telephone interviews, behavioral interviews, etc. You must admit that going to such progressive interviews is much more interesting and exciting than going through the same routine questions during your job search.

Cinema - Interview. What is the function of Cinelogy and what is its secret?

Cinelogy is a method where one watches a film and then goes on to discuss the watched video. This method is used in psychology. It allows psychologists to solve very specific problems in the field of psychotherapy. According to professionals while watching a movie a person unwillingly transfers what he sees on the screen to his own self, his life, lives of his relatives, friends and acquaintances. HR managers also started using this method and added cinelogy to the range of interview methods. In the classic version of cinelogy interviewers use artistic, full-length movies. Sometimes, recruiters choose short video clips, cartoons or commercials.

Aydin Merez, an HR consultant with 10 years of experience shares her opinion about cinelogy."The viewer is projecting his own values and feelings to the characters, shaping his attitude to what is happening. The viewer is experiencing real emotions. Due to this visual projections, the person’s true motives, values, and emotions become obvious. These traits of character may be hidden during an ordinary conversation when it’s free of drama and conflict".

An artful HR-specialist uses his advantageous position during cinelogy interview and skillfully plays on the emotions of a surprised job seeker who is put in a completely unexpected, unpredictable situation. Instead of interviewing on professional subjects the interviewee is subjected to an unprecedented "torture". He is asked to analyze what is seen on the screen, to evaluate the characters and their actions, to follow the logic, meaning and all that the film director wanted to express. Well, quite possibly someone might consider stress-interview and cinelogy method to be equally difficult.

Of course your resume can provide enough information about you and your highly qualified skills. Cinelogy, however, gives more insight to your personality. This kind of interview gives answers to questions like:

  • Does your spirit and temperament make you fit to corporate values?
  • Are you able to work as full member of an established team in the company?
  • What is the level of your ambition?
  • How far are you ready to go in a particular situation?

This interview method is most effective and justified for positions for top managers with cross-functional responsibilities where they have to instantly adapt to changing situations and make responsible decisions. The main trick and the advantage of cinelogy that recruiters are so happy about is that it is almost impossible to prepare for such an interview. You will have to express yourself with the spur of the moment approach but at the same time remember that you are not in a competition for film critics but rather in a job market. Everything you say can and will be used either for or against you.

WHAT TO DO DURING CINELOGY INTERVIEW?

There are no correct answers during cinelogy interviews. Everything depends on values of a given company. Theoretically you understand what reaction and what answers an employer is looking from you. Therefore:

  • Read carefully job requirements and your responsibilities.
  • Scrutinize the website of an organization.Corporate values and mission of a company are usually publicly available.
  • After watching the film answer questions or make a presentation (this can be asked of you sometimes) in accordance with the spirit of the company in which you are being interviewed.

If you “try too hard” there is a risk that once you start working in this company you will not be able to become a part of a team, and the work will not please you.

So, first of all, always be yourself. Be natural and calm down during communication.

SO CINELOGY IS

In other words, cinelogy is a strategy as a result of HR development which surves as a kind of psychological test for your compatibility with corporate culture. Cinema-interview is a method to also identify your leadership traits which can not always be obvious during a standard interview.

It is for your own benefit that all the pitfalls and traps are used during a movie discussion. You do not need to become the character from a movie, it is enough to be yourself. When you observe the above the chances are that the company will find its "hero" not only by external characteristics (salary, responsibilities, career prospects), but also by internal factors (psychological comfort, work satisfaction).
